One year down… two more to go…
Well this is the end of the year so far. I haven’t really had the time to update this blog over the past couple of weeks primarily because I have been working flat out to finish the BeSpikeWise website. The summer project has finished and I can now sleep! After many hours coding and many more hours searching for the bugs in the code I (with a bit of help) managed to code a pretty slick website (in my opinion.)
You can view the website over at http://www.bespikewise.com. So after all the time spent on the website, a day before it was to be shown on presentation day at uni, I uploaded it to the IMP server to be shown. Unfortunately the IMP server is set up differently to a conventional server and so all the links got borked!… A whole morning later and much frustration searching through code, I corrected all the links so they pointed to the correct place.
Other than that, the presentation went well, other than the channel 4 representative calling our website ‘seedy’… What does she know, the rest of the year though it was fantastic and the channel 4′s website isnt exactly a eye pleaser anyway!
So the summer project is finished, and the group are going to try and keep in contact. We have done very well as a group without any major problems or fall outs. It was an absolute pleasure to work for them!
So thats me for the year… I am now in Hungary relaxing and sunning myself in 26 degree weather (and this is a cool day)
But it isnt to last… I will be working for the money for next year! So let me have my gloating moment.
So, bye bye for now… That is until I get the will power to update this blog during the holiday… But the chances of that are less than the chances of it snowing here within the next week.

I am really happy with the effort and the dedication our group are putting into the project. We have found our campaign that we are going to back and fight for. The agreed name is “Spyked.” Our campaign is to fight drink spiking and try to make people more aware of it. By shooting a number of viral adverts and a main campaign video we aim to bring the message to a lot of people.
We have settled on a logo, we are just creating and refining the website layout. I have taken it on myself to do the website so I have already started with layouts and what not. We just have to choose what it will look like. Grant, has done a fantastic job with designing the logo and he is currently working on a look for the website that I will then try to recreate.
Other than that, the scritps are coming on well, and things are going strong. We are trying to keep the website, and other bits and pieces close to our chest for the moment. We dont like the idea of showing something that is half finished. The downside of this is that we will have to work our collective arses off in order to promote this as much as we can in the last few weeks….
Wish us luck… more info to follow.

Ok… I havn’t posted anything here since the breakup for easter hols. Here is a brief summary of how the easter hols went:
It was amazing
Thats all I am going to say about it. It has nothing to do with the fact that I am being lazy and cannot be bothered to tell you ever insignificant detail, no no. Who do you take me for??? Actually, forget I said that.
Anyway, the easter hols were fun and I had a brilliant time. I am now back at university and well underway with our Summer Project. For those of you who are following my blog (god knows why you would want to do such a thing) and dont know what the summer project is or involves, it is like so: It is a 6 week project that involves all the BA media students (thats interactive media production, tv production and scriptwriters)
The project is coming on nicely and we have finally decided on an idea. The big idea for the summer project is drink spiking. A bit of research has been done and we have found (particularly in Bournemouth) that there is little information out there on the subject. Whats more, none of the bars and clubs do anything to make you more aware of it.
So our aim is to promote the awareness of it and hopefully reduce the problem. We will also aim it slightly towards men, because believe it or not 18% (roughly 1 in 5) cases of drink spiking has a male victim… Who says I cant give you interesting facts.
However at half 11 at night, thats the only fact you will receive tonight. I have stared at this computer screen for far to long already today (I have spent countless hours on Photoshop sketching) and now that I have settled my hunger for sketching something I can now go to bed with a piece of art I am actually happy with…. for once….
Goodnight all, I will try and update this with more info soon… Not really been in the mood to add to the blog with my life… not that its at all interesting.

Well its been a while but I have finally sorted myself out and given myself enough time to write something here. Its another One Day project! The brief for this day is:
Develop a character/style sheet for a key ‘character’ in your proposed animation idea.
Work onto paper if possible, unless your creation relies specifically on digital
visualisation techniques.
Consider:
Type and style of animation (e.g. cut-out, abstract, character-driven, Disneyesque vs
SouthPark-esque, photo or illustrative, etc.)
Rendering detail vs workload
Character front back and side views if appropriate, and key poses.
Movement testing (single frame fluidity vs keyframe ‘jumps’).
So what I have done is attempted, (now this is a key word for me) to draw one of my characters for my project. I know I havnt posted much about my project on this blog yet, but thats because my ideas have been a bit all over the place and I havnt put much of them down on paper as yet. I assure you I will post up my progress when I get the chance to.
For the moment though, just simply visualise a astronaut that travels in space for a flash animation. So I spent most of this morning drawing (or trying to) this cartoony astronaut for my project in various stages. I drew profile views for the character (front back and side) and a “video screen” view of the astronaut’s head. This “video screen view” I have split down and drew the head at various angles starting at the front and going in a full circle.
Below this I did a rough step by step animation guide to what the character could do in a “moon-walk” following the style set by Preston Blair (see
here for an idea)
Now I will upload these for you to laugh and mock ^^ so you don’t have to rely on my poor descriptive skills to get an idea on what the hell I’m rambling on about.
I know my drawings look more like scribbles, and I am a bit better at digital media, so I took the time to render a pose on flash where I can erase mistakes and make it look half decent!
Behold! A character I may use for the final piece:
Now… I have a full 40 minutes to go and do something else… Thats a first, not rushing to get the one day project done before the seminar…
I must be ill…
